What Students Should Know

When does the Fall 2026 competition take place?

It begins with a virtual kickoff workshop on September 18 and concludes with the final round in NYC on November 13, 2026.

What will students do in the competition?

Over 8 weeks, students work in teams to select a public company, conduct business and industry diligence, build a leveraged buyout analysis, refine the case through feedback, and defend their recommendations in pitch rounds.

Who is eligible to participate?

The LBO Case Competition is a selective, alumni-mentored opportunity for qualified juniors and seniors in the UConn School of Business. The cohort is capped at 40 students.

Open to qualified UConn School of Business juniors and seniors from every major. Finance majors are not required.

What company will teams analyze?

Each team will select its own public company. The LBO Case Overview lists the public target-eligibility rules, and selected participants receive the full Build Guide.

Who pitches and attends the NYC final?

The Final Four teams will pitch. All LBO competition participants are invited to attend the Final Four pitches in NYC.

When is the application window?

Fall 2026 applications open Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 12 p.m. ET and close Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 11:45 p.m. ET.

Who participated in prior competitions?

The competition has had 75 participants since 2023. The Past Competitions page highlights majors represented in prior cohorts and current career areas among former finalists.
